Rabix

The Rabix is closely related to the Phoenix. But unlike the Phoenix, which achieves perfect metamorphosis from ashes to golden bird, the Rabix doesn’t burn completely. A piece of coal always remains, causing part of its plumage to stay black.

Feeling somewhat inferior to the Phoenix because of this, it loves to hunt for golden, shiny objects. It’s considered a very orderly bird because it likes to sort its treasures in its nest.

A single life cycle lasts exactly 1 year, 6 months, 1 day, and 8 hours. This has something to do with the Golden Ratio. Shortly before a cycle ends, the Rabix settles into a chimney where it can inconspicuously burn to ashes. The following night, when all residents have gone to bed and the ashes have cooled, the Rabix rises anew.

It’s not uncommon for Santa Claus to collide with a Rabix when jumping into the chimney. You can probably imagine how that ended.

And although the Rabix is actually immortal, it is therefore considered extinct today.
